Katherine Rothkopf ǀ Henri Matisse: Searching for the New

Take a close look at the career of Henri Matisse, one of the most important and influential artists of the 20th century, led by Katherine Rothkopf, curator and organizer of Matisse: Masterworks from The Baltimore Museum of Art.

Along with Pablo Picasso and other groundbreaking contemporaries, Matisse helped change the rules of art through his bold use of color, form, pattern, line, and space. His constant exploration of these elements produced an exceptional body of work, remarkable for its variety and inventiveness. Rothkopf will examine his art through works from The Baltimore Museum of Art, the most comprehensive and largest collection of his work in the world. She will also explore his close friendship with the Cone sisters of Baltimore, whose incredible collection of modern art is now housed at the BMA.
