MAEP Annual Meeting

All Minnesota artists are invited to attend the Minnesota Artists Exhibition Program (MAEP) Annual Meeting on Saturday, November 12, at 2 p.m. This is your opportunity to hear about MAEP activities of the past year, to elect four new members to the MAEP Artist Panel, and to network with the Minnesota arts community.

Attendees of the Annual Meeting will elect four new Panelists at the 2017 Annual Meeting. Panelists review applications for exhibition and serve as liaisons between the museum and the artistic community of Minnesota. See below for more details on how to become a Panelist. Remember: All nominees must attend and present at the Annual Meeting.

Panelist Nominations

The seven-member artist panel is elected to two-year terms and meets quarterly to review proposals and select exhibitions. Each year, either 3 or 4 panelists rotate off the panel to allow room for a diversity of critical voices and include a variety of professional expertise. For more information about MAEP go to artsmia.org/maep.

MAEP accepts nominations and self-nominations in advance of the meeting. Nominations must be submitted by October 31, 2017, and will be posted on the website on November 2, 2017. You can learn about each candidate’s skills, background, and experience before casting your vote by going to MAEP website and social media. Nominations from the floor are also accepted.

Nominees must be present at the meeting as they are introduced to the public and give a brief 2-minute speech. Ballots are cast, and the 2017 panel is announced at the meeting. Results are posted to the website and social media the following week.

Requirements for Nomination & Self-nomination

All self-identified artists who currently reside in Minnesota are eligible for nomination (except degree-seeking students and Mia staff). To make a nomination or self-nomination, send the candidate’s name, contact information, and a letter of support (see below) to Nicole Soukup, Artist Liason: nsoukup@artsmia.org.

All materials must be submitted via e-mail. Mailed nominations will not be accepted.

Each nomination or self-nomination will be accompanied by a letter of support, no longer than 500 words.

Nominations from the floor during the annual meeting will be accepted.

When composing your letter, please address the following questions: Why are you nominating this individual for the panel? What specific skills can this candidate offer? Does the candidate have experience as a panelist or a juror? What is the candidate’s standing and position in the arts community? Describe his or her knowledge of the Minnesota arts community and contemporary art. Does he or she have any professional affiliations that would be perceived as a conflict of interest?

E-mail nominations and any questions to Nicole Soukup, Artist Liason: nsoukup@artsmia.org
