Mary Ann Butterfield Lecture: Helena Hernmarck

Award-winning weaver Helena Hernmarck has said, “In my art I explore the relationship of color in the fibers. Both theme and technique aim toward presenting the character of color in the yarns themselves?wool absorbs light and reflects color in a unique way compared to art made of other materials.” Her significant contributions to the field include her revival and continuation of tapestry in its large scale and narrative format as well as her interest in the unique expressive qualities of wool as medium, topics she will address in this talk.

Hernmarck trained at the University College of Arts, Crafts and Design in Stockholm, and has exhibited in Sweden, Denmark, and the U.S.
