MCAD@MIA 2015: Microsafari

Ever wanted to go on a safari? Minneapolis College of Art and Design (MCAD) student Mercedes Knapp’s “Microsafari” invites visitors on an imaginative expedition through MIA’s diverse collection of art from around the world. Knapp has placed nine installations throughout the galleries, next to the artworks that have inspired their creation. These bright forms made from Sculpey clay will surprise and delight children of all ages.

Please join us in the Impressionism Gallery, G355, on March 26, 5pm for an introduction and tour of Mercedes Knapp’s “Microsafari.”

If you spot one these creatures in the museum, snap a shot, then tag us on Instagram @artsmia and Twitter @artsmia using #ArtSafariMIA. With each tag you’ll be entered in a lottery to take home your favorite creature. Let your journey begin!

“Microsafari” will be on view March 26–June 21, 2015, as part of MCAD@MIA.

MCAD@MIA is an ongoing partnership between MCAD and the MIA. The goal of this juried collaboration is to encourage art students to create new and innovative work that responds to the architecture, space, and/or collections of the museum. MCAD students are given the unique opportunity to work with MIA staff in the institutional setting of the museum and gain professional experience. MCAD@MIA promotes an educational collaboration beyond the conventional involvements of communities and museums.
