Minneapolis Trans* Equity Summit

The third annual Minneapolis Trans* Equity Summit will be hosted by the City of Minneapolis in partnership with Mia.

The theme for this year’s summit will be employment, with sessions covering topics of interest to employers, employees, and community members interested in furthering transgender equity. All are encouraged to attend.

The keynote speaker will be Crispin Torres, a community educator for Lambda Legal Midwest. Breakout sessions will be held exploring important issues and questions related to employment. A reception and a performance by Tona Brown, an acclaimed transgender violinist and mezzo-soprano, follows.

All events are free and open to the public, but registration for the evening performance by Tona Brown is required due to limited space.  Click here to register online.

About the Artist

Trailblazing violinist and mezzo-soprano vocalist Tona Brown has performed across North America and Europe. Brown is the first transgender woman of color to perform at Carnegie Hall. She is also the first African-American transgender woman to perform for a sitting U.S. president. She began playing the violin at age 10 and attended the prestigious Governor’s School for the Arts in Norfolk, Virginia. She is a founding member of the Aida String Trio and performs frequently as the principal violinist of the Radiance String ensemble. Brown has been featured in numerous newspaper, magazine, and television programs for her work with the youth, as well as her performances.
