Resistance, Protest, Resilience: Shifts in Photographic Expressions

Gain new insights into photography focused on themes of resistance, protest, and resilience, the title of a current exhibition.  And find out how radical shifts in society observed worldwide since the 1960s have given artists and photographers freedom to break out of their preexisting modes of expression and to experiment. Some of these new expressions with the camera synchronized with global art movements, such as conceptualism and performance art. Most of the illustrating photographs are drawn from Mia’s collection and appear in the exhibition.

Yasufumi Nakamori, PhD, is the curator and head of the Department of Photography & New Media at Mia.
