Sketching in the Galleries: Discovering Shape, the Second Visual Element

Shape is a visual element used to communicate form, feelings, and ideas. A drawing distills the three-dimensional world we live in into the two-dimensional world of the flat page primarily through shape. Its importance cannot be understated. We will discuss the major shape categories and helpful ways to see them more clearly. Drawing will be from works in the permanent collection.
