Sketching in the Galleries: Exploring Format

Format is the shape of the two-dimensional picture plane. It is most often rectangular and influences the content of a work. The artist manipulates the visual elements using the principles of design within their specific format to create the object of expression. We will look at works in the classroom to see how format affects their reading and explore format through drawing in the galleries.
