Sketching in the Galleries: Principles of Design, Unity/Variety

A successful drawing must have visual unity as well as variety to maintain a viewer’s interest. How does the artist use the visual elements to meet this need? Students will explore the creation of unity and variety in their drawings of works in the collection to maintain both compositional control and interest.
