Sketching in the Galleries: Themes and Purposes of Art – Telling Stories, Art as Narrative

Instructor: Ken Wenzel

The old adage a picture is worth a thousand words tells us that art can be a place of telling stories through a narrative structure. We will look at examples of narrative art to see how it is successfully manifested in the individual images typical of traditional visual art forms. Students will draw from works in the permanent collection focusing on those having a narrative quality to them.
