The Friends of the Institute is an organization of members dedicated to supporting, enhancing, and sustaining the collections, programs, and influence of the Minneapolis Institute of Arts. By joining the Friends you will be connected to a group of nearly a thousand friendly, art-loving people dedicated to supporting the museum, as their predecessors have done for over ninety years!

The Friends have two main fund raisers. Art in Bloom is a free, community-wide rite of spring celebrating timeless art and fresh flowers that brings well over 26,000 visitors to the museum every year. Art Perchance is an entirely entertaining, completely unstuffy evening of art and artfully clever carnival games named best fundraiser by Mpls.St.Paul Magazine in 2009. Both of these outstanding events are produced by hard working Friends volunteers. Over their long history, the Friends have contributed well over $6 million to the museum.

By joining the Friends and participating in our volunteer opportunities you have a chance to make a difference. The Friends make significant contributions to the museum’s educational department, are responsible for bringing more than 8,000 school children each year to the MIA for a free docent-led tour, are supporters of special exhibitions, sponsor an exceptional monthly lecture series featuring worldwide recognized speakers, provide funds for acquisitions to the museum’s permanent collection, and make numerous other contributions to the MIA.

A basic Friends membership is only $45. Your benefits are many. You will receive our informative newsletter, which will keep you abreast of activities and volunteer opportunities and educate you about the museum’s collection through the informative “Collection Connection” article. You will be invited to participate in lively Friends Only Events, special Art and Architecture tours, and exciting new member events! We invite you to stop in the welcoming Friends office to pick up additional information about the Friends and learn more about volunteer opportunities, or you can find out more about our organization on this website.

We look forward to having you join the Friends of the Institute!
