Family Day: Exploring Egypt

Explore ancient Egypt at this month’s FREE Family Day at Mia! Join an archaeology excavation of the imagination inspired by “Egypt’s Sunken Cities,” and travel to the time of the pharaohs. Decode hieroglyphs and mysterious symbols, and create your own versions of ancient artifacts and treasures.

Activity Schedule

Art-Making: Relief Prints
Inspired by carvings in the “Sunken Cities” exhibition, create your own relief carvings and then make a monoprint.

Art-Making: Archaeology Adventure
Join our imagination-powered archaeology dig to find ancient Egyptian artifacts!

Art-Making: Shiny Scarabs
Using metallic clay, sculpt a scarab beetle, an important symbol in ancient Egypt.

Gallery Hunt: Secret Codes
Look for symbols, codes, and clues in Mia’s collection.

Preschool Tour: Hide and Seek
You are never too young to enjoy Mia! These forty-five minute themed gallery experiences incorporate engagement with artworks in the museum galleries, illustrated storybooks, songs and rhymes, movement, looking and hands-on activities. These lively tours are designed especially for 3- to 5-year-olds.
