You’ve just received an invitation to the palace by the Queen herself! Use your imagination to explore a castle, become royal characters and undertake a top secret mission with teaching artists from Children’s Theatre Company.

Hands-on Demonstration Oakeshott Institute

See and touch medieval artifacts, and learn about medieval life from educators at the Oakeshott Institute. And don’t miss a special appearance by an armor-clad knight at 12:30 and 2 p.m.!

Music Lute
Noon–4 p.m.
Hear the sounds of a traditional medieval instrument, the lute, played by musician Phillip Rukavina.

Hear royal tales from around the world with master storyteller Katie Knutson.

Art-Making Collaborative Castle
11 a.m.–4:30 p.m.
Help construct a castle from cardboard, then play inside.

Art-making Coral Cutlery
11 a.m.–4:30 p.m.
Be inspired by the MIA’s own coral cutlery, as well as an incredible object owned by the Habsburg royal family. Then make a “coral”-topped spoon and fork of your own.

Art-making Gold Crests
11 a.m.–4:30 p.m.
Craft a family crest using gold foil paper.

Art-making Royal Portraits
11 a.m.–4:30 p.m.
Dress yourself in courtly attire and pose for a portrait at our photo booth.

View masterful works by Rembrandt, Rubens, El Greco, Poussin, and more that trace Europe’s rich history, and see treasures of the MIA’s collection that complement our special exhibition.
