Sketching in the Galleries: Themes and Purposes of Art – Creating Harmony and Order

Harmony is created through a multitude of visual relationships in a work of art and engages the viewer by creating order and meaning in the work. The class will discuss the importance of harmony as an element of design and look at examples of its successful use. Students will then apply these ideas in drawings done from works in the permanent collection.
