Somali Family Night

Join Mia, the Somali Museum of Minnesota, and the Children’s Theatre Company for an evening for Somali families, neighbors, artists, and all others.

Come to enjoy:

Dance

The Somali Museum’s traditional dance troupe consists of youth from Minnesota who study, perform, and teach dances from all regions of Somalia. There will be a DJ playing Somali music, so guests are encouraged to bring their dancing shoes!

Weaving

Using no loom or frame, Somali nomads weave mats by hand to cover their homes. Learn this traditional art from resident Somali elder artists Ardho Ismail, Hawa Aden, Halwa Daud, and Amina Shire.

Poetry & Storytelling

Listen to Somali storytelling with Ladan Siraji, teaching artist with the Children’s Theatre’s Neighborhood Bridges program.
