In Her View: Contemporary Women Photographers
July 4, 2020 - December 13, 2020
Harrison Photography Gallery
“In Her View” places contemporary photographs by Deana Lawson, An-My Le, and Mickalene Thomas at the heart of a critical investigation of Mia’s collection of U.S. photography. Centering groundbreaking works such as Lawson’s Nation, three prints from Le’s Silent General series, and Thomas’s Madame Mama Bush within the physical space of the gallery, the exhibition explores each artist’s interventions within, meditations upon, or remediations of national narratives as expressed through portraiture and landscape studies. Works from Mia’s collection of historical photography, including photographs by Ansel Adams, Walker Evans, and Edward Weston, will be displayed around the perimeter of these dynamic contemporary photographs to spark further dialogue and investigation of national narratives and tropes. Mia is proud to partner with the For Freedoms Initiative in the organization and promotion of this show.
