Some 40 spectacular landscape paintings drawn from the private collection of Microsoft co-founder and philanthropist Paul G. Allen will dazzle and enlighten visitors about this popular painting form. Spanning 400 years, the exhibition illuminates the rich and varied approaches in European and American art to the landscape genre. Featured masterpieces include works by Claude Monet, Gustav Klimt, Edward Hopper, Georgia O’Keeffe, and David Hockney. The selection is lush and wide-ranging—from meticulous topographical records to Surrealist dream worlds, from psychological explorations to immersive works of near abstraction. Lovers of French Impressionism and Neo-Impressionism will find these styles well represented.

The exhibition is co-organized by Portland Art Museum, Seattle Art Museum, and the Paul G. Allen Family Collection. This exhibition is supported by an indemnity from the Federal Council on the Arts and the Humanities. Vulcan Inc. has also provided generous in-kind support.
