Dean Norton’s lecture is an entertaining look at the gardening world of George Washington. As the Director of Horticulture at Mount Vernon, Norton oversees the preservation of the most accurate 18th century gardens and landscapes in America, including the most recently restored pleasure garden. For over 150 years people have studies, researched and dug in the earth for clues about George Washington’s home. Ticketed event.

HANDS-ON FLORAL WORKSHOP: Debra Prinzing “Cultivating a Slow Flowers Bouquet”
Studios 112 & 113
Cost: $100 / PURCHASE TICKETS
Using Minnesota and American-grown flowers and foliage, participants will create a seasonal arrangement that reflect the designer’s personal style using a vase of choice. Please bring your own vase, approximately 8-inches tall by 5-6 inches wide as a vertical or horizontal vase. In addition to your own vase, please bring your own tools. Fee includes materials, including flowers, and instruction from a nationally renowned florist and author. Take home a masterpiece! Ticketed event.

Dr. Marla Spivak, world-renowned scientist and expert on bees is McKnight Professor of Entomology at the University of Minnesota. The UMNBee Squad, founded by Dr. Spivak, helps care for the healthy and productive hives of honeybees on the MIA’s roof. Spivak’s message to flower gardeners, students, and food producers is “People want good clean food. So do bees!” Ticketed event. Reduced price for students.
