About the Artist

KyoungHwa Oh was born in Seoul, South Korea, where she studied fashion design before moving to the U.S. and eventually began working in ceramics. Oh received her MFA from Southern Illinois University and joined Colorado Mesa University as an associate professor of art. Her work consists of functional and sculptural carved porcelain. First, her pieces are thrown on the wheel, and then altered by cutting, adding clay, and carving to create new forms. Oh encompasses the influence between traditional Asian values and modern Western society.
