Artist Conversation: The Art of Celebrating Loss

Join in an exploration about ways in which art can be a part of a grieving process. A conversation with altar builders facilitated by Khusaba Seka. We will take a look at altars from different traditions and talk about this practice where grieving and celebration intersect.

On Saturday, March 26, join Khusaba and other artists at Free Open Studio: Altars with Khusaba Seka.

“Supernatural America: The Paranormal in American Art” is on view at Mia February 19 – May 15, 2022.\

About the Artist
An intuitive life coach/cultural centric advisor, Khusaba Seka is initiated into the priesthood of Orisha worship in the spiritual system of Ifa. Known as a community organizer as well as sister, mother, and grandmother, she has advocated, led circles, and mobilized the community in a number of different ways. Focused within the nonprofit sector, she facilitates training, leads workshops and convenes audiences from various cultural communities. Seka also supports individuals and teams across the country with intuitive readings and coaching.

As a woman of African descent who has been trained in Womanhood through rites of passage, she has been named with purpose and has honored her ancestors and spirits as an altar builder, and altar builder facilitator. She finds direction and instruction from her elders.

“Coaching is an essential part of Who I am. I am a humble servant of Orisha and my ancestors.”
