Artist Talk: Meleko Mokgosi
Meleko Mokgosi is an artist, associate professor, and co-director of graduate studies at the Yale School of Art, as well as the co-director of the Interdisciplinary Art and Theory Program based in New York City. Mokgosi is renowned for his large-scale, figurative, and often text-based works that engage history painting and cinematic tropes to uncover notions of colonialism, democracy, and liberation across African history. His monumental work, Bread, Butter, and Power, is a central feature of Mia’s current special exhibition, “Giants: Art from the Dean Collection of Swizz Beatz and Alicia Keys.”
Please join us for a conversation regarding this work and others with Mokgosi and Casey Riley, Mia’s Chair of Global Contemporary Art, at 2 p.m. on June 1, 2025.
This lecture is made possible with generous support from the Mark and Mary Goff Fiterman Fund.
This event has reached capacity. Tickets are available to see the exhibition, on view now through July 13, 2025.
