Asian Influences in Music: a Collaborative Performance Series presented by MacPhail Center for Music and the Minneapolis Institute of Art

Asian_ConcertThe influence of Asian aesthetics, art, and culture on music is wonderfully wide-ranging, as this concert demonstrates with music as varied as Opera Yukionna (Snow Witch), a new work by composer Asako Hirabayashi, the tranquil tones of Arvo Pärt, and Japanese folk songs.

This is the first of three Collaborative Performance Concerts featuring the music of MacPhail Teaching Artists James De Voll, Andrea French, Asako Hirabayashi, Tyzen Hsiao, Jon Iverson, Bacco Liu, David Livingston, Toru Takemitsu, Momoko Tanno, Greg Theisen, Richard Tostenson, and Jacqueline Ultan.

Pre-concert talk: 1 p.m. in the Friends Community Room.
