Collecting African American Art on Paper

In recent years, Mia has accelerated its acquisition of work by African American artists, especially of postwar and contemporary works on paper. This effort has led to outstanding acquisitions of modern and contemporary art. Dennis Michael Jon will discuss Mia’s past activities and current strategies to collect, display, and champion African American art. Myrtis Bedolla, an expert on the sale and collecting of African American art, will discuss this important collecting area, including her views on current market conditions.

Myrtis Bedolla is founding director of Galerie Myrtis, a contemporary fine art gallery and art advisory in Baltimore, Maryland. Dennis Michael Jon is associate curator in Mia’s Department of Prints & Drawings.
