Create Late: Drop-in Open Studio

Wrap up your week with hands-on art making for adults. Grab a drink from the café, then join us in Mia’s studios to explore an art project led by professional artist, Madeline Helling.

In this week’s Create Late, explore Mia’s collections and come create your own “Jumping Jack” toy inspired by artworks in the galleries.  Something like cross between a puppet and a paper doll, “Jumping Jack” toys date back thousands of years to ivory toys made in ancient Egypt, wooden versions of the toys became widely popularized in 17th century Germany.

Madeline Helling is a multidisciplinary artist who jumped into the fields of puppetry and cardboard engineering in 2010. Much of her work centers around large scale community-based collaborations. She is currently a staff artist for the Mayday Parade at Heart of the Beast Theatre.
