CANCELLED: Day trip – Museum without Glass: The Hill Museum & Manuscript Library

We apologize for the inconvenience, this event has been cancelled. In consideration of the health and safety of visitors, volunteers, and staff, Mia is temporarily closed to the public.

Please join fellow Mia Library Affinity Group members for an exclusive day-long tour of the Hill Museum & Manuscript Library (HMML) and the architecture of Marcel Breuer on the campus of St. John’s Abbey and University in Collegeville, Minn. Julie L’Enfant, a Minnesota Book Award winner, will accompany the group and will present two half-hour talks on the bus to and from Collegeville. The first will be an introduction to Marcel Breuer and the architecture of St. John’s, and the second will be a discussion of Breuer’s other projects, which included private homes. Tim Ternes, director, the St. John’s Bible Project and HMML programming, will guide us through the abbey church and St. John’s Bible Gallery; Melissa Moreton, PhD, assistant director for strategic development (and an expert on historical bindings), and Matthew Heintzelman, PhD, curator and cataloguer of rare books, will give us an insider’s view of St. John’s rare-book collection.

The program includes round-trip transportation from Mia to Collegeville on a private chartered bus; admission to the library and museum with presentations by Tim Ternes, Melissa Moreton, and Matthew Heintzelman; two half-hour lectures on the bus (to and from Collegeville) by writer Julie L’Enfant; a visit to Marcel Breuer’s abbey church, where you will have the option of observing noon prayer with the monastic community; refreshments on the bus; and buffet lunch in a private dining room on campus.
