Diana Picasso: Pablo Picasso in Vallauris, 1954–64

[UPDATE: Due to unforeseen circumstances Diana Picasso is unable to join us. Eike Schmidt, James Ford Bell Curator of Decorative Arts & Sculpture at the MIA, will now be presenting the February Lecture on Identity and Diversity in the Habsburg Court.]
Diana Picasso has a connection to Pablo Picasso that runs far deeper than most art historians: She is the granddaughter of his great love, Marie-Thérèse Walter. She has written widely and well about modern art and about her famous forebear. For this talk, she returns to Picasso’s long stay in the French village of Vallauris, where he collaborated with local artists and craftsmen for a decade, contributing to the renaissance of Vallauris pottery industry. Picasso will explore the work of innovative craftsmen such as Toby Jellinek, Joseph-Marius Tiola, and Paul Massier.

PLEASE BE SEATED BY 10:50 a.m.; ANY OPEN SEATS WILL BE FILLED AT THAT TIME.
