An Evening Salon with Peter Sheppard Skærved

Join Grammy-nominated violinist Peter Sheppard Skærved and Rachel McGarry, Mia’s Elizabeth MacMillan Chair and Curator of European Art, for a salon-style evening of art and music to celebrate the conservation of an Italian Renaissance masterpiece.

Francesco Salviati’s monumental 1540s tapestry depicting the meeting of Dante and Virgil at the beginning of the Inferno returns to view at Mia following a meticulous restoration. The evening features a conversation and musical program that charts a course from 16th-century Italy to today, including a world premiere of a work composed specifically for this tapestry and gallery space.

This event is free and open to the public.

View the tapestry in “Back from the Underworld: Mia’s Dante Tapestry Restored,” on view at Mia from July 11, 2026, through January 31, 2027.
