Family Day: Warm and Fuzzy

Join us for our free monthly event for families, kids, and the young at heart. On the second Sunday of every month, the museum is filled with hands-on art activities, live music, dance performances, artist demonstrations, family tours and more — all inspired by Mia’s incredible collection.

Make a warm and fuzzy bead to adorn yourself with guidance from artists from the Textile Center. Textile Center programs more than 200 classes a year for all skill-levels and year-round youth programming which includes the Youth Fiber Art Guild™

Join CarryOn Homes as they prepare a cozy gallery for the upcoming exhibit, “When Home Won’t Let you Stay: Art & Migration” (opening February 23). Help artists from this cross-cultural collective make pillows and learn about their work welcoming immigrants and refugees.

Get cozy and explore big-hearted books as a family. From 11AM to 2 PM, Doing Good Together, a national nonprofit that offers kindness tips and service ideas to help children learn lessons in empathy, will be present to offer more books and take-home activities for families.

Sun Babies and Lullabies

What is a Sun Baby? Any one that loves the sun and loves to shine their light. Join Kashimana for an interactive performance of warm and fuzzy lullabies and songs for Sun Babies. Kashimana is a musician and composer based in the Twin Cities whose rich soulful voice and stage presence will cure your winter blues and get you feeling warm and fuzzy.

Warm up with tunes by Classic Brass Inc., a local brass quintet. The five experienced brass players have been together for thirty years, playing a repertoire as broad and varied as any you’ll hear.

68 voices 68 hearts is an animated series of Mexican indigenous stories, narrated in their native language. Created under the premise, “No one can love what they don’t know,” it hopes to reveal the wealth of the 68 hearts that enrich our country. The screening at Noon and 3PM will have English subtitles, the screening at 1:30PM will have Spanish subtitles.

Farm to Yarn!

How is yarn made? And where does it come from? Explore these questions through touch and play with educators from Gale Woods Farm,  a working educational farm located in Minnetrista. Also, watch wool being spun into yarn with Mia staff and textile artist Michelle Cohen from 11:30AM-1PM, and 2-3:30PM
