Film Screening & Discussion: Blackwaters

Join filmmakers and the Minneapolis Parks Foundation for a community-wide discussion about how BIPOC communities are reclaiming and reframing the great outdoors.

For five Black men, a fly-fishing expedition into the arctic becomes an exploration of what it means to be a person of color in wild places in Blackwaters, a new documentary film by director Chad Brown. The Minneapolis Parks Foundation, in partnership with the Cultural Wellness Center, Melanin in Motion, the Minneapolis Institute of Art, and the University of Minnesota Department of Forest Services, is pleased to present the film’s first Minneapolis screening, followed by a discussion with cast members. A powerful story about trauma and healing, set against the beauty of Gates of the Arctic National Park, Blackwaters is a call to action about making wild spaces where everyone belongs.

Surrounding the screening and discussion, enjoy Meet at Mia: Summer Series from 5-9PM.
