Film Screening: The Perfect Motion
The Perfect Motion reflects on the journey of the Cambodian Royal Ballet and the history of Khmer classical dance. The film follows a group of dedicated dancers as they create a new piece titled “Metamorphosis,” inspired by Auguste Rodin’s drawings from 1906, when the French artist saw the Royal Ballet perform during a visit to Paris.
Throughout the rehearsal and creation process, dancers and master teachers who endured the Khmer Rouge share their stories of dance as a form of resistance. They also reflect on the meaning and symbolism behind Cambodian dance movements and the importance of carrying on traditional dance forms to new generations of dancers.
