Film: The Anderson Platoon

In conjunction with the special exhibition “Artists Respond: American Art and the Vietnam War, 1965–1975,” Mia will screen The Anderson Platoon, the Academy Award-winning documentary by filmmaker Peter Schoendorffer. A veteran of the Indochina War between France and Vietnam, Schoendorffer returned in 1966 to Vietnam, where he and a cameraman embedded with a platoon of American soldiers, led by Lieutenant Joseph Anderson, for six weeks at the height of fighting. The film focuses on the soldiers and how American culture pervaded their behavior amid life and warfare. (Not rated; 65 min; 1967)
