Friends Lecture: Rachel McGarry
Mia holds one of the world’s leading collections of European art outside of Europe. During this talk, Rachel McGarry, Mia’s Elizabeth MacMillan Chair and Curator of European Art, will focus on the museum’s first 40 formative years.
Hear fascinating stories of the directors, collectors, patrons, and curators who nurtured the collection’s growth in strategic, ambitious, and opportunistic ways. Learn about the triumphs and setbacks, trends in taste and the art market, and the personalities and institutional aspirations that shaped Mia and its European holdings since 1915.
Friends members may call Visitor Experience at 612-870-6323 on March 15 to secure lecture tickets before they’re available to the public. Tickets for Mia members and the public are available on March 17.
