Kandel, M.D., for insights into how the brain sees, perceives, and responds to a work of art through the lens of portraiture by Gustav Klimt, Egon Schiele, and Oskar Kokoschka—modernist artists of turn-of-the-century Vienna. Dr. Kandel is a professor in the Department of Neuroscience at Columbia University.
