Connect, create, kick back! Meet at Mia is a series of free Thursday evening events for adults. Get to know us—and each other—with live music, art making, special programs, and unique food and drink (for purchase). No registration or secret handshake required.


October Programs

October 15 | Hispanic Heritage

Celebrate the close of Hispanic Heritage Month (September 15–October 15). This special Meet at Mia brings together incredible artists from around the Twin Cities for a night of creativity, community, and more. Be sure to visit Mia’s exhibitions “Maria Berrio: Songlines” and “‘Immigrants’: A Gift from Morelos to Mia” while you’re here!

It’s a Halloween bone-nanza! Get your costumes out for this spooky, festive evening and enjoy Mia’s annual Halloween party. Jahna Peloquin leads visitors through “Paris Couture” with the careful eye of a vintage curator. Enter the costume contest before touring spooky artwork in Mia’s collection. Members visit “Paris Couture” for free this Member Day. Become a free member on site!

Costume Rules at Mia: Wings and tails cannot be worn in the galleries; face paint cannot be worn at all. Wings and tails can be worn in the lobby, and/or put on for the contest. No nonmedical face masks. No large props (e.g., swords, etc.).

November 5 | Native American Heritage Night

Honor Native American Heritage Night at Mia. Explore Mia’s Indigenous art from the permanent collection alongside a Mia guide. Enjoy fry bread tacos from Trickster Tacos food truck before visiting Mia’s studios for artmaking.

November 12 | Exhibiting Forgiveness

Meet at Mia celebrates Titus Kaphar. Enjoy a free screening of the film Exhibiting Forgiveness, written and directed by Titus Kaphar in the Pillsbury Auditorium. Explore Kaphar’s work created for the film on free guided tours of the exhibition “Exhibiting Forgiveness.” Create and express yourself guided by artist Lissa Karpeh in Mia’s studios.

January 7 | Come Together

Come together in community at Mia. Join Yess Yoga for meditation and gentle movement sessions before venturing into Mia’s galleries for close-looking exercises with a Mia guide. Explore Mia’s exhibition about Gilles Peress, one of the most esteemed documentary photographers of his generation. Join Minneapolis graphic artists Mike Davis and Wes Winship from Burlesque of North America to design your own poster.

January 21| Baroque and Back

If Dante can make it back to Mia, so can you! Meet at Mia celebrates the incredible Dante tapestry on view for a limited time. Weave your own miniature masterpiece with Textile Center. Grab your passport for a trip around Mia’s galleries to experience live poetry from Minnesota’s Teen Poet Laureates, produced by the Minnesota Humanities Center, presented by Mia.
