Cream of the Crop: A Minnesota Folk Art Conversation

Join a very Minnesotan conversation about all things crop art in our state’s culture and history. In celebration of “Cream of the Crop: A Minnesota Folk Art Showcase,” Mia’s new exhibition honoring the whimsical and meticulous world of seed art, this panel brings together some of Minnesota’s most imaginative voices in the field. Hear a panel of local artists speak to their craft and reflect on the legacy of this folk art tradition.

About the Panelists

Moderated by award-winning crop artist and educator Marta Shore, now Assistant Superintendent for Crop Art and Scarecrow at the Minnesota State Fair, the conversation features three artists whose work highlights the range and vitality of this beloved folk tradition.

Kate Brenner-Adam, part of Mia’s Visitor Experience team, brings clever storytelling and fine detail to her seed-based creations, including The Chariot (Minnesota State Fair Edition).

Robin Schwartzman, a Minneapolis-based artist, educator, and mini golf designer, explores themes of play and humor in her interactive works.  She also serves as president of the International Society of Caricature Artists.

Rounding out the panel is Liz Schreiber, a longtime crop artist with a background in sculpture and theatrical design. Her work has been widely exhibited and will appear in the Smithsonian American Art Museum’s upcoming “State Fairs: Growing American Craft” exhibition.
