SOLD OUT – Nancy Ramage ǀ Matisse and Old Lace: The Cone Sisters of Baltimore

Hear family tales about the Cone sisters and their friends straight from their great-great-niece, an art historian who used their personal letters in her book, The Cone Sisters of Baltimore: Collecting at Full Tilt.

Claribel and Etta Cone were among the earliest collectors of works by Picasso and Matisse, with whom they became close friends. But they were not to the manor born. The sisters grew up in a large family, children of a German immigrant who began life in America as a penniless itinerant. The Cone brothers eventually had enough money to support their unmarried sisters, who used their part of the family funds to acquire brazen examples of modern art.

Book signing to follow.

Nancy Ramage is the Charles A. Dana Professor of the Humanities and Arts Emerita at Ithaca College.
