(SOLD OUT) Performance: Objet de Desir Inaccessible (Unattainable Object of Desire)

Threads Dance Project, a Twin Cities based contemporary dance company, has created a work inspired by depictions of Black women throughout the history of art, such as Marie Benoist’s painting Portrait d’un Negress, which hangs in the Louvre. Choreographed by Artistic Director Karen L. Charles, the work addresses the issues of race and gender as depicted in artwork and how they manifest themselves in society both past and present. A portion will be premiered to Mia’s audiences in a special site-specific performance in the galleries.

The performance will be preceded by a conversation about works in Mia’s collection, and followed by a discussion and Q&A.

Tickets are $20, $15 for My Mia Members, and are available online, by phone at 612.870.3000, or in person at the Visitor Services desk in the museum’s Third Avenue lobby.
