Sound.Art.MIA and 89.3 The Current present J Mascis (SOLD OUT)

J picIt’s all but inconceivable that J Mascis requires an introduction. In the quarter-century since he founded Dinosaur Jr., Mascis has created some of the era’s signature songs, albums, and styles. As a skier, golfer, songwriter, skateboarder, record producer, and musician, Mascis has few peers. The laconic roar of his guitar, drums, and vocals have driven a long string of bands—Deep Wound, Dinosaur Jr., Gobblehoof, Velvet Monkeys, the Fog, Witch, Sweet Apple—and he has guested on innumerable sessions.

On Thursday, October 9, the MIA, along with 89.3 The Current, welcomes Mascis, one of Rolling Stone magazine’s “100 Greatest Guitarists of All Time,” for an intimate performance in the museum’s Reception Hall, as part of a North American tour in support of his second solo studio album.

Tied to a Star, the follow up to Mascis’ acclaimed Sub Pop debut Several Shades of Why, will be available on CD / LP / DL August 25th in Europe and August 26th in North America. The album, led by the songs “Every Morning” and “Wide Awake,” was recorded and produced by Mascis and mixed by John Agnello at Bisquiteen in Amherst, MA. Tied to a Star also features guest appearances from musicians Ken Maiuri (Young@Heart Chorus), Pall Jenkins (Black Heart Procession), Mark Mulcahy (Miracle Legion) and Chan Marshall (Cat Power).

Mascis  will be joined by opening artists Luluc.

Launched in the winter of 2014 with Kim Gordon and Bill Nace’s psychedelic and improvisational Body/Head performance, Sound.Art.MIA is a contemporary concert series at the MIA. Sound.Art.MIA supports the MIA’s mission to engage audiences through a wide and diverse array of artistic mediums
