Ancestral Tremors // மூதாதையர் நடுக்கம் film screening

Ancestral Tremors // மூதாதையர் நடுக்கம் is a spark, a layering and a portal, expounding on Tamizh/Tamil ancestry. The layers of the piece explore kinship and new world-making. We braid together, weave, explode and self-stitch to create new worlds, while dialoguing through movement, texture, sound and heart. This is a screening of a work created by Chitra Vairavan.

Ancestral Tremors is co-commissioned by The Cowles Center as part of their Merges in March series with support from the National Endowment for the Arts.

April 16, 10:00am-5:00pm
Ghosts in the Machines video synthesis screening in Pillsbury Auditorium.
The memories of the past can haunt us – but through electronics, it’s our stored memories. Within echoing voices and faces, there’s a sense of familiarity. At first scary and unknown, sometimes we remember and realize we know that sound, that movement, that person. Sometimes they are they to help us remember. Recorded with older analog video equipment and found answering machine messages, we can see and hear ghosts of the past through these devices. Created by video artist Shawna Lee, performer and co-collaborator Queen Drea, and sound artist Erik Tinberg. Tickets not required.

May 14, 10:00am-5:00pm
