Join Su Hwang and Sun Yung Shin of Poetry Asylum, with special guests Heid Erdrich, Roy Guzmán, and Michael Torres, for an evening of conversation, poetry readings and prompts in our first virtual Third Thursday.

Inspired by Warsan Shire’s poem “Home,” which has become a rallying call for many refugees around the world, you are invited to reflect on the poetics of home during these unprecedented times of global, radical tumult. In connection to our special exhibition, When Home Won’t Let You Stay: Art and Migration, these poets will address themes of home, im/migration, diaspora, displacement, disruption, violence, resistance, and resilience through the lens of the four elements, the four corners of the earth.

Poetry Asylum is a Minneapolis-based, organizing feminist poetryship that creates diverse platforms outside privileged spaces to bring poetry to traditionally marginalized communities [or in some cases, bring marginalized voices into privileged, white spaces]. In recognition of the urgencies of our socio-political moment, Poetry Asylum aims to provide refuge for underrepresented voices by celebrating the expansive field of language & expression in all its forms through open dialogue, innovation, collaboration & advocacy.
