José María Velasco and Virgen de Guadalupe Celebration and Community Reception
Join Mia, the Minnesota Council on Latino Affairs, Consulado de México, and the Office for Equity and Diversity at the University of Minnesota for a special community reception. We’ll celebrate the exhibition “José María Velasco: A View of Mexico” and Mia’s new acquisition of the painting Virgen de Guadalupe, created in the circle of Mexican artist Manuel de Arellano (1662–1722).
This evening honors Mexico’s rich artistic heritage and cultural traditions through the work of Velasco—one of the country’s most celebrated landscape painters—and the enduring legacy of Virgen de Guadalupe, a powerful symbol of faith, resilience, and national identity. Enjoy an evening of art, music, and community, and explore the exhibition, connect with friends and neighbors, and experience the beauty and significance of Mexico’s cultural treasures together.
Cultural attire is welcomed. Light refreshments will be provided. Welcome remarks take place at 6 p.m. Share this invitation with other community members you know who may be interested in attending.
Free tickets available November 13.
