Virtual Arnold Newman Lecture on Photography & New Media: Dayanita Singh

Celebrated photographic artist Dayanita Singh will present an alternative history of photography in Birthing the Photobook: A Matrilineal History. In conversation with Mia’s Chair of Global Contemporary Art, Casey Riley, Singh will discuss a range of photographic books–from the 19th century botanical photographs of Anna Atkins to 20th century family albums–to reveal their impact upon the evolution of the photographic medium.

Generous support provided by the Arnold and Augusta Newman Foundation.

“Dayanita Singh: Pothi Khana” is on view at Mia through April 10, 2022.
