Virtual Event: At the Mouth of the Cave

This is a virtual event.

On March 5, use this link to join this virtual event.

Hosted by Burn Something Collective, this workshop offers a panel presentation and participatory workshop to activate Mia’s current special exhibition, “Supernatural America: The Paranormal in American Art.” Facilitated by artist and educator Genevieve DeLeon, the panel features presentations from a pair of artists – Herme-Linda Moncada and Lydia Enriquez – whose diverse creative practices cross boundaries of art making and craft.

During the first hour, the facilitator and panelists will offer their own experiences working to uncover and re-interpret tradition in their creative practices. During the second hour, DeLeon will guide audience members to strengthen their own journey with ritual experimentation. Each participant should bring (1) a name/image of an ancestor or a relic from your cultural heritage, (2) a candle to light during the workshop; (3) an offering to the ancestor whose name or image you have brought (or to your cultural lineage more generally); and (4) and the name of a ritual you are drawn to that may connect you to your cultural heritage.
