Virtual Event: Wikipedia Edit-a-Thon with Black Lunch Table

This is a virtual event that will take place via Zoom.
Click here to login to Zoom.
This event will take place from 12:30-3:30PM CST.

Wikipedia edit-a-thons are held around the world to improve content on this free online encyclopedia, highlighting visual artists who are often excluded from art history. The Black Lunch Table (BLT) is an oral-history archiving project and Wikipedia initiative, which was founded by New York-based artist Heather Hart and Chicago-based artist Jina Valentine. Their roundtable sessions provide space for interdisciplinary and intergenerational discussions, bringing together a diversity of community members and fostering candid conversations. Their Wikipedia edit-a-thons mobilize a collective authoring of articles pertaining to the lives and works of Black artists. No experience is necessary; all you need is computer access. Organizers from the Black Lunch Table will host a training session via Zoom at 12:30pm CST for newcomers. Suggested entries will be shared with participants in advance via the BLT Wikipedia Meetup Page. Join us the day before on Friday, February 5, at 12PM CST for a talk with the artists behind Black Lunch Table to learn more about their work. Click here to learn more.

If you don’t already have a Wikipedia user name, we suggest getting one in advance. Here’s how:
Navigate to Wikipedia.org and choose English, or the language you wish to edit in.
In the upper right-hand corner click “create user” and follow the prompts.
We suggest anonymizing your user name for Wikipedia. i.e. “jokoala123” instead of “johnbsmith123.”
Congratulations, you are ready to learn how to edit, navigate over to our Meetup Page: https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:Meetup/Black_Lunch_Table/MiA to check out some artists whose Wiki presence we can improve.

Mia is presenting this program in partnership with the Minnesota Museum of American Art, the Walker Art Center, and the Weisman Art Museum.
