Vitality Arts: Altered Books

Join Laura Wennstrom, a multimedia artist and educator, for a five-week workshop where you’ll create an altered book.

An altered book is a form of mixed-media art that changes a book from its original form into a different one, transforming its appearance and meaning. An altered book artist takes a book and modifies it in various ways, such as cutting, tearing, folding, or embedding objects.

Bring an old book (or choose from one of ours!) as you collage, cut, and create something totally new. Each week you’ll destroy and then rebuild your literary work, all while exploring a different collage technique: assemblage, image transfer, text modification, layering, and composition. You’ll spend a lot of time in the studio working on your piece, with plenty of room for group collaboration and discussion.
