Let: an act of reverse incorporation is a project designed and created by artist Andrea Carlson and collaborators that examines complicated museum practices in encyclopedic museums. This project includes a video artwork on view in Gallery 260 and new, reimagined labels about objects on view, created by project participants, throughout the museum. The video artwork documents a public performance created by Carlson and community members, in which sculptural replicas of various objects from Mia’s collection were carried out of the museum to the landscape outside. Responses to these and other objects in the permanent collection are discussed within the video. The film and labels found throughout Mia invite audience members to reflect upon and interrogate the collection and display of particular objects in encyclopedic museums.

Find out more about this project and the collaborators in Mia’s Community Commons area, first floor. You can also read Andrea’s Story on the Mia Stories blog.
