MCAD students Carla Rodriguez and Ethan Holbrook, inspired by the acoustics and compass shape of the second-floor atrium in the Target Wing rotunda, created this site-specific installation. Paying close attention to the sound and pace of visitors in the atrium, they sought to accentuate the unique characteristics of the space.

A Continued Presence is an eight-channel audio recording of Carla running around the rotunda, capturing the sound of her breath and bare feet slapping the marble floor. Played on a continuous loop, the artists created the effect of a ghostly presence infinitely repeating its circuit.

MCAD@MIA is an ongoing partnership between the Minneapolis Institute of Art (MIA) and the Minneapolis College of Art and Design (MCAD). The goal of this juried collaboration is to encourage art students to create new and innovative work that responds to the architecture, space, and/or collections of the museum. MCAD students are given the unique opportunity to work with the MIA staff in the institutional setting of the museum and gain unique professional experiences. MCAD@MIA promotes an educational collaboration beyond the conventional involvements of communities and museums.
