The Infinite World: Chinese Figure Painting of the Ming and Qing Dynasties (14th-19th centuries)
March 1, 2014 - November 2, 2014
Galleries 200 and 203
Free Exhibition
The painting of human figures is a major genre in classical Chinese art. The close ties between painting and ancestor worship, Confucian philosophy, Daoist and Buddhist religions, and the projections of imperial authority to art shaped unique characteristics of Chinese figure painting. Drawn from the MIA’s sizable collection of Chinese painting, this exhibition presents this enduring tradition.
