Between 1965 and 1987, William Siegmann developed a life-long passion–and formidable eye–for African art. Before his death in 2011, the Minneapolis native and curator of African art at the Brooklyn Museum of Art started donating portions of his collection to various museums, the MIA among them.
Covering a period from the 15th to the late 20th centuries, “Visions from the Forests: The Art of Liberia and Sierra Leone” will showcase approximately 75 pieces, created by artists from over a dozen different ethnic groups.
