Minneapolis Institute of Art and Mall of America Launch Partnership

Minneapolis Institute of Art and Mall of America® Launch Partnership
Two of Minnesota’s most popular organizations team up, blending fine art and fashion

MINNEAPOLIS, MN—MONDAY, FEBRUARY 16
The Minneapolis Institute of Art (MIA) and Mall of America (MOA™) are pleased to announce a partnership that merges art, fashion, and entertainment. The two Minnesota organizations are excited to offer the community artful new programing, activations, and installations debuting throughout the year.

“One of the goals of our 100th Birthday Year throughout 2015 is to expand the reach of the MIA, bringing art outside of our walls and into the community,” says Kristin Prestegaard, MIA’s Chief Engagement Officer. “We are honored to partner with Mall of America to enhance our mission of inspiring wonder through the power of art.”

“Mall of America is continuously looking for new ways to offer a fresh take on retail and entertainment, and partnering with MIA is the perfect avenue for this,” said Jill Renslow, Senior Vice President for Mall of America. “We are thrilled to partner with such an iconic Minnesota organization and together, we look forward to delivering unique experiences.”

The multi-faceted partnership launched with a twirl. On Friday, February 13, guests visiting MOA were delighted with a surprise pop-up Viennese waltz performance by dancers from USA Ballroom Dance. The performance, co-organized by MIA and MOA, celebrated the MIA’s exhibition “The Habsburgs: Rarely Seen Masterpieces from Europe’s Greatest Dynasty,” which opened Sunday, February 15. The two organizations will continue their partnership throughout the year. In addition to the MIA having a strong presence at the opening of the new MOA Grand Front Entrance, guests can look for the museum’s Family Day programming at Toddler Tuesday events and digital art installations at the Mall facilitated by the MIA.

The organizations are also eager to launch a very special project this spring: artist-designed t-shirts for sale to the public. Evocative and inspiring, the exclusive, limited-edition shirts will be available at both MOA and the Store at MIA in celebration of the museum’s 100th Birthday Year.

More information on these exciting ventures is to come.
